Mise - en- scene

One of the props we will use is a pile of dead leaves. The dead body that the Killer will run to at the end of the two minute opening will be lying on them. We thought that using this prop would be very effective, first of all, because they are dead, emphasising the death aspect. Furthermore, they convey the idea of something quite innocent being destroyed and the situation being inevitable. This links in with the storyline because the friend as well as the dead body (another teenager) at the end could not stop what was going to happen to them. With them just being teenage boys, doing normal things like going to the cinema, supports the innocence element.
The two locations we chose were Walthamstow Central and St James Street. The characters will first start off in Walthamstow Central where  they will leave the cinema then proceed to make their way to St James Street, indicating that they are making their way home.
Despite the two locations being in low key lighting due to the film being set at night, the two settings contrast each other. For example, in Walthamstow Central, there are many different lights and people walking past to imply a sense of normality and safety. However, as the characters arrive at St James Street, it is clear that this setting is completly different to Walthamstow Central, providing the audience with a different set of emotions. For example, there are no members of the public in all of the shots at St James Street, just the characters. This signifys that the characters are almost isolated from society, reinforcing a sense of danger. In addition, there is very little lighting, only the street lamps providing this, compared to Walthamstow Central where there are many light sources. This amplifies a possible threat to the characters.

We chose the colour of the killer's clothing to be black because we thought this was a great way to present the character's personality. Firstly, black is used to identify the antagonist, which is what we wanted to make clear to the audience. Also, the dark clothing portrays the character as being quite mysterious. We wanted to this to be associated with the character so it will want the audience to know more about him therefore, would want to watch the film.
Finally, we believed that the dark clothing would emphasise that this character is obviously the 'black sheep' of society and has more deeper problems then what he appears to have.
